Get Set to Go aims to remove the barriers to sport participation, so those of us with a mental health problem feel more confident about getting active and see it as an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Following on from the taster sessions, there will be an opportunity to complete a 12 week programme in a sport or activity of your choice. Both of these can be supported by a peer volunteer, either as part of a group or on a basis. Rushden Mind has been awarded funding by Sport England and the National Lottery to help people to try new sports and activities to help improve their physical and mental health. Through this work, Rushden Mind, working with our partners, is supporting people experiencing problems, such as depression and anxiety to build their confidence to join sports clubs, go to the gym or take up a new sports and activities.
Get Set to Go is an exciting new programme launched to help people bring more physical activity into their lives. Physical and mental health have a strong link. By introducing physical activity into the lives of all people we hope to:. People experiencing stress, anxiety and mild depression have seen a reduction in these feelings when taking part in regular physical activity. In addition it also helps to improve mood and wellbeing, self-esteem, and better brain function. In doing so, we hope to reach the maximum number of people who will benefit from this service as possible. You can try out various activities in the community and find something you enjoy. The programmes aim to help people take part in regular physical activity and we hope that for some people it will become part of their regular daily routine. We hope they will use their own experiences to support people with mental health problems.
